Welcome to Your Journey as a Freelance Psychotherapist in Amsterdam

Embarking on your career in Amsterdam? Here's a streamlined guide to help you navigate the registration process.

1. Begin with Freelance Registration

Kickstart your professional journey by registering as a freelance practitioner, known locally as 'eenmanszaak'. This involves a two-step process:

  • Step 1: Start by completing the KVK (Dutch Chamber of Commerce) online registration.

  • Step 2: Schedule an in-person appointment at any KVK office for identity verification.

🌟 Pro Tip: Be clear about your role as a psychotherapy practitioner under the WTZA law to ensure correct fiscal classification. Aim for the activity code 86913 (Praktijken van psychotherapeuten, psychologen, en pedagogen).

2. Register as a Counselor

Your next step is to register as a 'psycho-social therapeut' with the NFG (Dutch National Federation of Healthcare Professionals). You'll be applying to the OTR (Independent Counselor) register.

🕒 Take your time; this step involves detailed paperwork.

3. Acquire Your Practitioner Number

Congratulations on reaching this milestone!

Similar to a car's license plate, healthcare professionals have unique practitioner numbers for identification and communication. Locally called 'AGB' code.

Obtain this AGB practionner code from Vektis at no cost, usually within 3-5 business days. Fill in the online form, and your practitioner number will be assigned.

4. Secure Your Digital Login

Before moving to the next step, you'll need an eHerkenning, the healthcare professional's version of the DigiD. This can be ordered online from any of the certified companies.

5. Adhere to Quality Standards

As a registered healthcare professional, you're expected to meet certain quality standards set by the Ministry of Healthcare. This includes mandatory reporting of incidents or domestic violence cases.

Show your understanding and readiness to implement these standards by completing the online questionnaire of the Ministry of Healthcare. Remember, your eHerkenning from Step 4 is required to log in.

Your dedication shines through in every step. If you have any questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out. Welcome to the vibrant community of healthcare professionals in Amsterdam!
